What we are bringing to market…June 16th

June 15, 2012 By Blue Skys Farm

This week we will be bringing some “first-timer” vegetables to the market.  We will have purple kohlrobi and the first beets of the year!  In addition, we will be bringing…

Garlic Scapes
Sugar Snap Peas
Radishes (French Breakfast and Easter Egg Varieties)
Kale (Red Russian and Rainbow Lacinato Varieties)
Bright Lights Swiss Chard

Kim’s Custom Salad Mix

For potted plants this week, we are featuring the shady perennials heuchera, astible and tassle ferns.  Coming soon are unique hosta varieties.

Other perennials include campanula, lavender, liatris and forget-me-nots.

The annual potted plant new this week is the teddy bear sunflower…don’t miss out on this plant, it’s very cute.

In news from the farm, our spring plantings in the hoop house are doing very well.  Little Leaf cucumbers (a tasty pickler/standard hybrid) should be ready for market next week and our Rebelski, Sungold, Tomatoberry and Yellow Pear tomatoes are currently producing fruit (still green).  Here are some photographs.

Little Leaf Cucumbers

A row of over 70 cucumber plants!

Our row of cherry tomato varieties.

Tomatoberry fruit on the vine.

Both the cucumbers and tomatoes need to be pruned to a single stem and trained up a string in order to allow for this closer spacing.  Click on the links (words in baby blue) for videos of this process.

Thanks and see you at the market!
