Market – June 1st

May 31, 2013 By Blue Skys Farm

Hello,

Looks like summer is here!  The items in our hoop-house, and throughout the farm for that matter, are very happy and growing like crazy.  Below is a photo of the inside of our hoop-house.  Nice and neat…for now.   Despite the fact that we single-stem* our cucumber and tomato plants will soon be well over 6 feet high and will become a virtual wall of green.

Far left is the rose-like flower called Lisianthus and the remaining rows are cucumbers and tomatoes.  They are planted 1 foot apart and the rows are approximately 75 feet…that’s a lot of tomatoes and cucumbers in your future!

As for this week, we will be bringing the following items to market:

Baby Spinach
Lacinato/Red Bor Kale Mix
Kim’s Custom Salad Mix
Rainbow Swiss Chard
Herb, Flower and Vegetable Starts

Hope to see you at the market.

Farmer Kim

*Single-stemming requires the pinching off of suckers, which allows growth on one single main branch.  It limits the amount of growth side to side therefore allowing us to plant these climbers one foot apart.  We utilize a string hanging from the roof of the hoop-house to train each plant up vertically.
