Pawtuxet Village Farmer’s Market – August 29th

August 27, 2015 By Blue Skys Farm

Where we’ll be:

Pawtuxet Village Farmers Market
Rhodes on the Pawtuxet
60 Rhodes Pl, Cranston
Saturday, 9am–12pm

Thundermist West Warwick Farmers Market
186 Providence St, W. Warwick
Thursday, 3–6pm

This week we will be featuring a tomato tasting at the market. Our tomato varieties include:

Juliet
Green Zebra
Yellow Brandywine (my personal favorite)
Pink Beauty
Amish Paste
Sungold
Grape
Red Pear

In addition, we will be introducing our variety of hot peppers:

Moruga Scorpion
Ghost
Habanero
Lemon Drop
Serrano
Jalapeno

Want to know how hot these peppers are?

Moruga Scorpion —> 1.2 million units
Ghost —> 1 million units
Habanero —> 350,000
Lemon Drop —>  100,000 units

To put the heat in perspective, the Scorpion pepper contains 500 times more heat than a Jalapeno.  Yikes!

In addition to the tomatoes and hot peppers, we will be bringing the following items to market this week:

Husk/Ground Cherries
White Potatoes
Purple Potatoes
Blackberries (from our friend Manny)
Onions
Kale
Swiss Chard
Skyphos Butterhead Lettuce
Asian Eggplant
Caraflex Cabbage
Socrates Cucumbers*
Chioggia Beets (pronounced kee-OH-gee-uh)
Fortex Pole Beans
Tomatillos

*Socrates cucumbers are a thin-skinned fruit (thus the reason you don’t see them in the grocery store) that are tender, sweet and seedless

Flowers include:

Sunflowers
Celosia
Sylphid
Lizianthus
Statice
Zinias (red and yellow)

Dried Herbs and Teas include:

Dream Pillows (Mugwart & Lavender)
Spearmint
Catnip
Nettle
Lavender
Spearmint & Lavender Tea

Did you know that Terry’s Tasty Treasures buys hot peppers from Blue Skys Farm for their Pepper Jellies? It is great when local businesses buy local products! In fact here is a photograph that Christina took of the Jalapeno and Serrano Peppers that Terry purchased last week.

Terry’s Tasty Treasure will be at the market this week so be sure to stop by to purchase some Tasty Treasures.

———————————–
Do you have any plastic grocery bags hanging around? We would love to take them off your hands. This time of year in particular, we go through a large amount of bags. We would much rather recycle than purchase new. So, if you are coming to the market, please feel free to drop off as many bags as you would like. Thanks!

Hope to see you at the market!
