What we are bringing to market…August 18th

August 17, 2012 By Blue Skys Farm

Another warm week in Rhode Island.  Everything is growing like crazy…especially the weeds!  New items for this are Red Shallots and Red Marble Cipollini (see photo).

For those of you unfamiliar, shallots are a member of the genus Allium which also includes garlic and onions.  This is very appropriate as the flavor of a shallot is best described as a mild mix of red onion and garlic.  Very tasty indeed!

The website WhiteOnRiceCouple.com have a wonderful description of cipollini.  “Cipollinis are perfect specimens of mini-flat orbs of cuteness and when
roasted in the oven, the result is a platter full of gorgeous,
caramelized bites of sweet poetry.”  Here is a link to their recipe for Roasted Cipollini Onions in Thyme.

Rhubarb
Tomatoes
Scallions
Kim’s Custom Salad Mix
Rainbow Lacinato Kale
Bright Lights Swiss Chard
Sweet Pepper Mix
Kermit (Thai) Eggplant
Cucumbers
Fresh-Picked Basil and Rosemary
