Farmer’s Market – September 13th

September 12, 2014 By Blue Skys Farm

This week we are featuring Sun Gold Tomatoes.  These cherry tomatoes have an exceptionally sweet, fruity flavor.

Did you know that you can only purchase these bright tangerine-orange tomatoes at local markets?  Due to their tendency to split, these fruits can not be shipped.  As a result, this is a tomato that is grown for its flavor rather than its ability to be shipped across the country.  You can taste the difference too!

Don’t know what to do with cherry tomatoes other than putting them in salads?  Take a look at this recipe from Smitten Kitchen for Slow Roasted Tomatoes.  Sun Gold Tomatoes are perfect for this recipe.

In addition to Sun Gold Tomatoes we will be bringing the following items to market this week:

Blue Potatoes
Tuscano Kale*
Rainbow Lacinato Kale
Bright Lights Swiss Chard
Garlic
Onions
French Breakfast Radishes
Ophelia (baby) Eggplant
Sweet Italian Frying Peppers
Orange Sweet Peppers
Hot Peppers
Pedron Peppers
Christina’s Custom Salad Mix
Golden Beets
Red Ace Beets
Purple Kohlrabi
Farmer Tom’s
Oyster Mushrooms
Scratch Farm‘s
Italian Eggplant
Leeks
Heirloom Tomatoes
Blue and White Potatoes
Husk Cherries
Haruki Salad Turnips

*Tuscano Kale in the intense afternoon sun.  The brightness makes an otherwise very dark green kale  (see the shaded leaf on the far left for comparison) look almost lime green.

Sunflowers!

Should be a beautiful day at the market.  Hope to see you there!
