Pawtuxet Village Farmer’s Market – September 19th

September 17, 2015 By Blue Skys Farm

Where we’ll be:

Pawtuxet Village Farmers Market
Rhodes on the Pawtuxet
60 Rhodes Pl, Cranston
Saturday, 9am–12pm

Thundermist West Warwick Farmers Market
186 Providence St, W. Warwick
Thursday, 3–6pm

Another beautiful week at the farm. We are appreciating every minute of it, as we know how quickly the weather will change. Although the temperatures are still summer-like, we have definitely notice a change in light. Shadows are different as is the need to use headlights when driving home at 7:00 in the evening. No noticeable leaves falling (yet) but one chilly night will change that.

As autumn will soon be here, we are prepping for the cooler months to come. The cucumber and tomato plants have been removed from the hoop house and are being replaced with fall crops such as arugula and spinach. Winter Rye, a popular cover crop, has being applied to rows in the field to both protect the soil as well as making the soil more suitable for crops in the spring.

Although we are prepping for the upcoming months, we are also working hard at maintaining and harvesting out late summer produce.

This week we will be bringing the following items to market:

Figs
Daikon Radish
Tomatoes (sadly, the last of them)
Rainbow Carrots
Chioggia Beets (with tops)
Skyphos Butterhead Lettuce
Swiss Chard
Kale
Asian Eggplant
Purple Potatoes
White Potatoes
Hot Peppers (Ghost, Habanero, Serrano, Jalapeno)
Tomatillos

Beautiful flowers including Lisianthus, Zinnias, Fresh Lavender, and Statice

Culinary Herbs and Teas

Photos from the farm:

Here is Robert, a great addition to the Blue Skys Farm team, weeding one of the perennial beds prior to planting another row of lavender (now we have 3 rows!). Mugwort has quite the root system!
Skyphos Butterhead Lettuce in the field.
I love sunflowers and bees! It’s not easy to get the bees to stay still for a picture.

See you at the market!
