Farm News
Mother Nature has quickly changed the temperatures from mid-80’s to mid-60’s. Away go the shorts and short sleeves and out come the wool socks and sweaters. Such is life in New England.
We have been working hard to transition the hoop houses (also known as high tunnels) from summer crops to those that do well in cooler temperatures. Here is a photo of the inside of our 2nd hoop house, which primarily housed the tomato crops this year. As you can see below, one of the rows of tomatoes has already been replaced with, customer favorite, Bordeaux Spinach. Yes folks, we will have had a successful germination of this amazing red leaf spinach and we look forward to bringing it to you all at the indoor winter market in Pawtucket.
Here is a closeup of the tasty Bordeaux Spinach.
We have also planted Bright Lights Swiss Chard, Dilll and Skyphos Head Lettuce.
The Golden Beets that were transplanted into the hoop house a few week ago are coming along nicely.
Pawtuxett Village Farmer’s Market’s own Market Manager, Annemarie B., visited us today and processed some Lemon Verbena that had been dried in our drying room (thank you!). She also came in to see what we were up to in the 2nd hoop house. She took this photo of moi planting the Bright Lights Swiss Chard. Christina was very happy that someone got a picture of me rather than it always being her in photos.
Got to love finding “love carrots”!
Annemarie has also provided us with a recipe for Green Tomato Salsa!
Be sure to give it a try. I know I will!
See you at the market!
