Come and visit us this weekend:
Pawtucket Wintertime Farmers Market
Hope Artiste Village
1005 Main St., Pawtucket
Saturday, 9am–1pm
(through April 29)
We’ll have a selection of greenhouse-grown produce, dried culinary herbs, herbal teas, and infused oils, with additional items from our fellow Urban Edge farms: Scratch Farm, Zephyr Farm, and Pak Express Farm.
April Farm News
The big plan for April is to get things in the ground! We’re 2 or 3 weeks behind our normal schedule, due to the weather: the ground is too cold and wet even for peas—which we’re hoping to plant next week.
High Tunnel Construction
Next next is also when we’re planning to put plastic on the new high tunnel—hopefully! It will depend a lot on the wind. If you’re interested in volunteering for this hefty project, please email us with your phone number. It might be a spur of the moment thing, but if you might be around during the week, please let us know.
New Crop: Broccoli Spigarello
This year we’re going to try growing a new green: Broccoli Spigarello. It’s similar to broccoli rabe, but more mild in flavor. It’s native to southern Italy, but has recently made the rounds in our hemisphere. Check out this short, information, and amusing article about spigarello over at Food Republic.
The Pawtuxet Village Farmer’s Market‘s New Web Site
In advance of the market’s opening on Saturday, May 6, the Pawtuxet Village Farmer’s Market has just launched a new web site, and boy, it sure is pretty! Check it out here.
